What Are Bubble Letters?
Bubble letters are rounded, enclosed letterforms that look like each character is surrounded by a circle or square. In handwriting and graffiti culture, bubble letters are drawn with rounded, inflated strokes that give text a friendly, bold appearance. In the digital world, Unicode provides actual enclosed character versions — circled, negatively circled, and squared — that can be typed and pasted anywhere.
This generator uses Unicode's enclosed alphanumeric characters to create three distinct bubble letter styles, all of which are plain text and compatible with any platform that renders Unicode.
The Three Bubble Letter Styles
- Ⓒⓘⓡⓒⓛⓔⓓ: Each letter is enclosed in an open circle. Unicode includes circled versions for all 26 uppercase letters (Ⓐ–Ⓩ), all 26 lowercase letters (ⓐ–ⓩ), and digits 0–9 (⓪–⑨). This is the most classic and widely supported bubble letter style.
- 🅽🅴🅶🅰🆃🅸🆅🅴: Letters appear in white on a black filled circle — the "negative" or inverted version. These use Unicode's Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement block. Note that these may render as emoji on some platforms.
- 🅂🅀🅄🄰🅁🄴🄳: Letters enclosed in squares rather than circles. Uses Unicode's squared Latin letters. Also from the Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement block.
Where to Use Bubble Letters

- Gaming usernames: Many games support Unicode in player names, making bubble letters a fun option for standing out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do some bubble letter styles appear as emojis?
The negative circled and squared letter styles use Unicode characters from the Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement block (U+1F150–U+1F169 and U+1F130–U+1F149). On many modern operating systems and platforms, these are rendered as colorful emoji rather than plain text characters. This is a platform-level rendering decision — the characters themselves are standard Unicode letters.
Do circled letters work on all platforms?
The basic circled letters (Ⓐ–Ⓩ and ⓐ–ⓩ) from Unicode's Enclosed Alphanumerics block are widely supported across all major platforms, operating systems, and fonts. They are some of the most reliably cross-platform Unicode characters available.
Can I use bubble letters in my Instagram bio?
Yes! Instagram fully supports Unicode characters in bios, names, and captions. Circled letters are especially popular for Instagram bios because they add visual structure and personality without requiring images.
Are digits supported?
Yes — in the Circled style, digits 0 through 9 convert to ⓪①②③④⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨. The negative and squared styles focus on letters only.
